COMMISSIONS
It all starts with an Idea:
a commission all starts with your idea. all I do is try make your idea a painting. photos are always a good place to start.  pick a subject and take photos, you can also look to google for inspiration. if its a building, try find that iconic angle that makes a building special. try take the photo with as much of the subject or all of the building within the frame (I can always zoom in if needs be). don't worry if the weather or back ground is not flattering in the photo,  the magic of a painting means all this can be changed.
here is an example of a commission I did in 2021.
The IDEA: The Client is a big fan of scotch whisky. their favourite distillery is glenmorangie. he also loves his new Mercedes car. the vision was to have a painting of the iconic distillery building with his car parked up outside it.
here is the process

The Photo sent by the client was taken on a dull day so the distillery doesn't look as glorious as it does in the summer sunshine. also the photo is a wide panorama image. this looks great as a photo but I think the painting needs more height as I believe the sky gives an organic feel to paintings of buildings

The finished commission has the clients car in the yard, more height in the canvas brings an electric sky that brightens up the image. in the final piece I removed anything that might be ugly but not very memorable to even notice, like the industrial buildings behind the distillery to the right and I have also added some pretty flowers to the left.

The artwork is 60cm x 40cm in size on a boxed canvas so its easy to hang

another detail the Client wanted was for the canvas to be deep edge. this 2" thickness adds another dimension and quality to the finished piece.

here are some things to consider about your commission
I specialise in Acrylic and Oil paints.
Oils can give a painting incredible texture, acrylics have give bright vibrancy and huge energy in colours. sometimes a painting using both can bring both qualities to life.
(be aware, oil paintings can sometimes take weeks maybe even months to dry)
size is not an obsticle, just an option! I can do the smallest canvas at 8"x 8" to as large as you like! so it's important for you to choose a size that will make the most of the intended wall space in your home. I can help with this process if needs be.
some paintings look great in a frame and even better with a white mount to make it really stand out.
others look amazing on a lovely deep edge box canvas that sticks off the wall and adds another dimension to the room it hangs in.
a little less used medium is hard canvas board. this tough hard back canvas looks fantastic when framed properly, either sitting into a tray frame or sitting on top of a mount rather than behind. this adds a layer of depth and perspective to the overall piece.
here are a few examples of to help you chose the best medium for your art piece.
